Back in May at Webvisions, Keith from Ibex gave me one of their Shak Full Zips to try out. I've meant to post on this sooner but, with gear-buying season in full swing, now's as good a time as any, and I now have five months of experience to draw on.
From the Ibex site, the Shak is described as follows:
Let a little air in with this full-zip beauty. 100% dense-knit New Zealand merino wool in a sharp design that’s versatile, soft and all but indestructible. Reversed zipper with locking pulls. Chest zippered pocket. Machine washable. Made in the U.S.
I'll just start off by saying that in five months, the Shak has become one of my favorite all around garments. I've probably worn it five out of seven days a week since I got it, and it shows hardly any wear. Unlike other merino wool garments I've owned (and I've owned many), it has no tendency to pill, it hasn't developed any holes or snags, it hasn't start to get thin anywhere, and it has maintained its shape.

Snowboard Magazine’s full current buyer’s guide issue online. Nice idea, too bad about the crappy Flash interface--who wants to use a web browser "pretend" they're reading a magazine? I mean, this info could have a life beyond the newsstand if, oh, I dunno, it was posted as actual web content.

Book a reservation for seven nights or longer this ski season at the Silver King Hotel in Park City, UT and they will buy you a brand new set of skis, bindings and poles from Rossignol or, if you're not a skier, they will buy you a new snowboard and bindings instead. The ski package has a retail value of $790

Vermont's Killington Resort will celebrate its 50th Birthday December 12-14:
"To commemorate the founding of the central Vermont ski resort on Dec. 13, 1958, when it opened with two surface lifts and seven trails, Killington will offer 1,958 50th Birthday medallions valid for skiing and riding the weekend of Dec. 13-14. The $50 commemorative medallions will be available for purchase through Killington’s website beginning Nov. 14. In addition to skiing and riding, medallion holders will be offered a variety of discount opportunities from Killington Chamber of Commerce members, preferred lift access and other resort benefits. Special 50th Birthday Ski and Stay Packages, including commemorative medallions, will start at $62 per person, per night."
You can buy your medallion online now. Pretty cool.

Learning to ski young was one of the best gifts my dad ever gave me--and in the west it's pretty easy for parents to do the same for their kids. 5th and 6th graders can ski free in both Utah and Colorado with each states' respective 5th/6th grade passport programs.

Powderchimp.com shows Colorado skiers what they already know: there’s a lot of traffic on I-70 in the winter.
It’s actually a cool mashup of Google Maps and traffic/ski cams in Colorado pulling together information that I usually waste time on CDOT’s site trying to find. Unfortunately it’s difficult to navigate on my iPhone, which is where I’d be most likely to need it as I try to figure out if I should just turn around and go back to Fort Collins or if I’m stuck in a short jam caused by people slowing down to look at sheep.
